In early June 2026, Bau-Trans assisted with the replacement of a CT scanner and an MRI scanner at Markusovszky Hospital in Szombathely, Hungary. In a single day, the specialists removed the existing equipment from the building and positioned the new scanners. With the hospital remaining operational and the sensitive equipment requiring careful handling, efficiency and precision were essential.

As part of a nationwide modernisation programme, the hospital is upgrading its diagnostic imaging facilities. Alongside the replacement of the CT and MRI scanners, the project includes refurbishing the examination rooms and adapting the technical infrastructure. Bau-Trans was responsible for removing the existing scanners and positioning the new units.

Thorough Preparation

To ensure the equipment could be moved safely into and out of the building, the exact dimensions of the access opening had to be established in advance. The hospital carried out the necessary demolition work itself, preparing the building for the equipment replacement.

The scanners, weighing just under three tonnes in total, were transported to the hospital on a curtain-sided articulated lorry and unloaded on site using a forklift. A lorry-mounted crane and an access platform were used for lifting and positioning.

Equipment Replacement in a Single Day

The main challenge was to balance speed with care: the hospital had to remain operational throughout, while the sensitive equipment required delicate handling.

“On this job, speed and a delicate touch had to go hand in hand. The hospital’s day-to-day operations could not be disrupted, and the sensitive medical equipment demanded the utmost precision. That made a detailed understanding of the conditions on site essential,” explains Tarsoly László, Head of Lifting Technology at Felbermayr Bau-Trans.

The team completed its work that same day. With the new scanners in position, a key milestone had been reached in upgrading the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities.
