By November, the City of Magdeburg (D) aims to put into operation a hot water storage unit including nine heat accumulators. BauTrans was responsible for transporting the 390 cubic metre containers using a vessel bed trailer.

The Felbermayr subsidiary Bautrans transported nine containers in late July. The boilers weighed in at 85 tonnes, were 30 metres long and measured 4.3 metres in diameter.

Due to their enormous size, the 500-kilometre distance was travelled using a so-called vessel bed trailer. “This special flatbed vehicle is capable of passing under bridges or over barriers with the load, and even negotiate tight bends,” Andreas Mathis from Bautrans explains. The vehicle combination reached a total length of some 64 metres. The transports’ destination was Magdeburg. There, the containers are required as hot water storage units for the local district heating network.
